Founded in 2010, Braskem Idesa is a company formed by the association of Braskem S.A. (Brazil), the largest producer of thermoplastic resins in America and one of the largest in the world, and Grupo Idesa, a leading Mexican company in petrochemicals. Altogether, developed the Braskem Idesa Petrochemical Complex, the largest Latin America, for the production of ethylene, high and low density polyethylene in Nanchital de Lázaro Cárdenas, Veracruz in Mexico. The project required a total investment of 5,200 million dollars, the petrochemical Complex came into operation in April 2016 and it will be producing 1 million tons of polyethylene per year.

About the Petrochemical Complex

The petrochemical complex of Braskem Idesa, is the largest private investment in the petrochemical sector of the last 15 years in Mexico. It represents an important advance for the Mexican petrochemical industry, since it will add value to the entire productive chain in the country. Currently, Mexico imports more than 60% of the polyethylene consumed, so the trade balance benefited from the decrease in the import of this raw material. The complex is composed of an electric power plant, an ethane gas cracker, two high density polyethylene plants and a low density polyethylene plant.

Braskem Idesa will have the capacity to produce 1 million tons of polyethylene with advanced technology. During the construction phase of the complex, the number of jobs generated was around 17,000 and in the operation phase, as of 2016, around 700 direct jobs and more than 2,200 indirect jobs were generate.

We used 45,000 tons of equipment, 411,000 m³ of concrete, 5,000 kilometers of electric cables, 32,000 tons of metal structure, 40.3 kilometers of underground piping and 25,000 tons of pipe for the construction of this complex.
